Age 85, of Micco, FL died on June 25, 2018. Formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, born on March 9, 1933; raised in Millvale; spent many years in Glenshaw before moving to Clearwater, FL in 1970. Bill was the son of the late Evelyn (Miller) Thompson and the late and famous Dr. William G. Thompson of Millvale. Bill graduated from Kiski Prep in 1951 and Geneva College in 1955, served in the Navy from 1956 to 1958 at Pearl Harbor. Bill's early employment was with the Pittsburgh branch of the Alling and Cory Paper Co., metallurgical dept. at U.S. Steel; then worked as a dept. mgr. for S.S. Kresge/K-Mart for nearly 30 years. His hobbies were boating on the three rivers and Yough lake, bowling, and visiting Civil War battlefields. He was also an avid member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan club beginning when they debuted in 1976. Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda; his sister, Jean (Richard) Lackey; and his children, Debbie (Bill) Newcomer, Cathy (Rick) Speicher, Robert (Mary), Debbie (Leigh) Simons, and Laura (Scott) Barron; and 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, David. Bill will be interred in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Florida. Services private; his family suggests donations in his memory to the William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Pkwy., Palm City, FL 32907 or American Diabetes Assoc.
