DOT-ANN
On March 26, 2018, age 90, a resident of St. Barnabas Communities, continued unexpectedly on her journey of transformation. Born Dorothy Ann Deckard, in Woonsocket, RI, to Howard C. and Berenice H. (Snyder) Deckard. She attended prep school at the Columbus School for Girls, then became a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity at Ohio University, and later studied at LaRoche College. She led a varied and colorful life, having lived on the Ford Rubber Plantations in Brazil, in the states of New York, Ohio, Michigan, Texas and Pennsylvania, as well as, having worked in Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico. She traveled to Spain and Portugal and, at the age of 80, toured Egypt. Dot-Ann was always involved in community events and the arts, including Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors, International YW (YWCA) Women and Civic Light Opera Guild. She was active for many years at McKnight United Methodist Church then Wallace Memorial Church. Dot-Ann was predeceased by her parents; a brother, James Kent Deckard; and her sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Deckard) and Herbert Joyce. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Sutter of Encino, CA, and Helen Sutter Turkalj of Greensburg, PA; two grandsons of whom she was so proud, Travis (Jenn) Turkalj and Kyle Turkalj; great- grandson, Nash; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. No service or memorial will be held at this time, as Dot-Ann was a donor to the Humanity Gifts Registry.
