Peacefully left this world on
January 15, 2019, surrounded
by family in Chambersburg,
PA, just a day shy of her 88th
birthday. Irene is survived by
her brother, Jan Jozef of
Petrovce nad Laborcom,
Slovakia; daughters, Mary Ann
Aviles and Caroline J. Tassone
(spouse, Vincent); grandchildren,
Michael J. Janovec (spouse, Lisa),
Kristen Tassone (fiancé, Alex), Karl
Janovec (spouse, Lexi), James
Tassone; four great-grandchildren;
and multiple nieces and nephews
in Slovakia. She is preceded in
death by her husband, Karol A.
Janovec; son, Joseph J. Janovec;
parents, John and Elizabeth
Joseph; and sister, Zuzana
Havrilova. Irene came to this
country as a newlywed in
1948, not knowing a word of
English. She built a full and
ful?lling life dedicated to her
family, her church, and service
to others. A proud and longtime
member of the Ladies of Charity
of the United States of America,
the Christian Mothers, a
Eucharistic Minister, an
Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion, and a proud “church
lady” volunteering in the kitchens,
she led by example in her belief
that her God calls everyone to
love one another and give of
themselves to those who need
help. A grandmother to
everyone she met, Baba never
let you visit without feeding
you, and never let you leave
without cookies.   She loved
and was loved by all who
knew her, and will be dearly
missed. A Viewing at 11:30
a.m. at the Word of God
Church, followed by Mass at
12:30 p.m.
