WALTER SCOTT GROSS, Jr.
A month before his high school graduation along with several friends enlisted in the Navy in May 1945 while the United States was still at war with Japan during World War Two. Walter was 17 years old and his father had to sign his enlistment papers. He served on the USS Oregon City, the flagship of the US Fourth Fleet.

Interrupted his studies at Penn State in February 1918 to volunteer to serve his country in the Army after the United States declared war against the Central Powers during World War One. He was one of thousands of patriotic young students to do so. He served as an ordnance officer.
WALTER SCOTT GROSS III
After graduation from Western Michigan University in 1986 enlisted in the US Marines where he served active and reserve duty from 1987 to 2014, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He served in a number of positions, including a Platoon Commander with Delta Company and Battalion Training Officer 15th Marine Expeditionary Unity for a WESTPAC Deployment.
JOHN ERIK McCARTHY
Grandson of Walter Scott Gross, nephew of Walter Scott Gross, Jr. and cousin of Walter Scott Gross III, after graduation from Furman University in 1985 enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment, 7th Division (Light) until leaving the service as a First Lieutenant in 1989.
ROBERT DANIEL JOHNSON
Brother-in-law of John Erik McCarthy and son of Huntington, West Virginia native career US Army Infantry Master Sergeant Thomas Johnson, after graduation from the University of Florida in 1984, commenced his US Army career including serving in the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
