On February 20, 2018. Loving sister of Raymond Schmitt, Sr. and the late Joseph Schmitt, Jr., Agnes Schmitt Wetzel, Catherine Schmitt, Cecelia Schmitt Jonnet and Dorothy Mae Schmitt Borres; daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Schmitt. Sister Jane ministered as a teacher and principal for over 40 years in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and in Puerto Rico. She then worked in pastoral ministry in St. Croix and the Diocese of Pittsburgh for ten years. Sister Jane also served as formation and associate director of the Sisters of St. Francis of Millvale. She founded and became Director of Tabor House of Prayer where she ministered for 16 years. She companioned people on their spiritual journey as retreat director, spiritual director, and centering prayer facilitator. She was always a gracious and grateful lady who loved to create simple yet eloquent welcoming surroundings for others. She will be especially remembered for her deep spirituality and the many ways she empowered others to grow in their relationship with God, self and others, especially through the practice of centering prayer. Visitation at the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, 146 Hawthorne Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15209 on Thursday Feb. 22, 2018, from 2 p.m. until time of a wake service at 6:15 p.m. and on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Sisters of St. Francis on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in Sister's Cemetery at Mount Alvernia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Ministry, Formation or Retirement Fund, 146 Hawthorne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15209.
