October 1, 1925 – June 24, 2017. Claire Sackin of Mt. Lebanon passed away peacefully at the age 91. She was born in New York City and was the oldest of three children. She was a school teacher earlier in her career, but took time off to raise her family in Pittsburgh. At age 40 she went back to school to earn her Master's degree and PhD in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in treatment for addiction and substance abuse. She was an esteemed professor and department head at St. Francis College from 1976 to 1997, and afterwards as professor emerita. She was passionate about the ballet, symphony, opera and theater, but especially art, and her favorite painter was Picasso. She was an avid traveler, including visits to Paris, London, China, Russia and Cuba, but her favorite spot was Aruba. She was married to Milton Sackin for more than 50 years until his passing in 2010. Claire is survived by three children and four grandchildren.
