Local landscape painter and teacher, died peacefully at his home in Highland Park on February 22, 2018. A graduate of CMU, he worked as a Lighting Director for Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the Miss USA Beauty Pageant. As a student at CMU, he worked on the design and construction of a mobile children's museum, a pilot project for the Pittsburgh Children's Museum Committee. He was an instructor of design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In 1990, George received the Eleven Who Care Award for his outstanding contributions to Peabody High School Writing Workshop. He is best known for his River Works paintings. He is survived by his “wife,” Cheryl Rhodes; his sister, Susan Burns; his brothers, Philip, Peter, and Alan; as well as his nieces and nephews.
