On Sunday, November 19, 2017, Richard P. Killmeyer, age 92, died peacefully surrounded by family. Beloved husband of the late Claire (Richert) Killmeyer; father of Richard P. Killmeyer, Jr. (Denise) Killmeyer, Edward Killmeyer, Susanne Killmeyer, Michael Killmeyer, and Elizabeth (Mark) Thomas; brother of Donald W. (Barbara) Killmeyer; grandfather of Kristin Killmeyer, Brandon Kehr, Eric, Alex, and Taylor Thomas; great-grandfather of Brayden Kehr; uncle to Deacon Tim (Chris) Killmeyer and Wayde Killmeyer. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Mary Killmeyer of Elliott. A kind, selfless man, Rich lived his life with honor, integrity, and humility, and was a joy to be around. Richard was part of the first graduating class of North Catholic High School, in 1943, and he was honored to be inducted into The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School Hall of Fame last year. Serving in the US Army in the Pacific in WWII, he was wounded in Okinawa and received a Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his gallantry. A retired draftsman with J&L Steel/LTV, he was a longtime member and volunteer of the Church of the Assumption. Richard was recognized as a Jefferson Awards Community Champion for his volunteer work as a tutor at Holy Family Institute. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, daily walks, Pittsburgh sports, and family get-togethers. Friends received Friday, November 24, 2017, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 460 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue, PA 15202. Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of Assumption on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School, 1617 Route 228, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.
