HEATON
WILLIAM C., Sr.
04/01/1938 – 09/07/2017. On September 7, 2017, William (Bill) C. Heaton, Sr., age 79, of Marshall Township, passed away after a courageous battle against Lewy Body Dementia, a form of Alzheimer's. Beloved husband of 54 years of Judith (Judy) K. Heaton. The couple grew up in a small town in Ohio and were high school sweethearts. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith; his daughter, Sara (Raymond) Hildenbrand of Richland Township; his son, William C. (Christine) Heaton, Jr. of Sheffield, MA; and proud grandpa to Elijah Hildenbrand, Tobias Heaton and Agnes Heaton. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Heaton; his mother, Maxine Heaton; and his brother, Craig Heaton of Chillicothe, OH. Mr. Heaton was a natural athlete and received a baseball scholarship to Ohio University. William graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and a major in Architecture, but baseball was his first love. After graduation he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bill was a member of the Ohio National Guard and served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked as an architect in Ohio, prior to relocating to Pittsburgh with his bride. In 1968, he designed and built their home in Ross Township and settled down to raise a family. William retired from the University of Pittsburgh's Facilities Management Department. One of his most memorable projects was transforming the Masonic Temple into the Pitt Alumni Center. The project received the Award of Merit from the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. He will be remembered for his love of travel, sailing, golf, genealogy, and most importantly his friends and family. A private service will be held for immediate family, at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Arden Courts Memory Care and Heartland Hospice for their kind and caring service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. To share a memory, please visit the tribute wall at www.simonsfuneralhome.com
