On September 2, 2017, Thomas Mark Bechtold, age 88, of Wilkinsburg passed away at Canterbury Place in Lawrenceville. Beloved husband of 36 years to Patricia J. Smith; father of Edward “Butch” (Linda) Bechtold, of North Huntingdon, PA, Thomas A. Bechtold, of Texas, John (Heather) Bechtold, of Roscoe, PA, and Marlene (Edward) Gates, of Wilkinsburg, PA; grandfather of Amy (Michael) Hileman, Cristy (Nathan) Champion, Bella, Aiden, Larry and Maddie Bechtold; great-grandfather of Brennan and Ryan Hileman, Karsyn, and Reegan Champion; and brother of Martha Langford. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca Bechtold; siblings, Joseph, Paul, Samuel, Phillip, Benjamin, Andrew and David Bechtold, Dorathy Boyles, and Miriam Rusnak. Tom was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for several years and later retired as an elementary school custodian in the Wilkinsburg School District. He enjoyed travelling to bowling matches with his fellow bowling team members from the railroad. He also enjoyed watching many different sports, the Food Network, nature and game shows and classic movies on TV. He was fond of regularly visiting local, state and national parks, going to the zoo, the aviary and enjoying the company of his pals at a nearby pub. He always looked forward to spending time at the Eastern Shore beaches and visiting with family. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 600 Pitt Street, Wilkinsburg, PA. Inurnment will be held with full military honors at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2017, at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 509 Washington Rd., Mount Lebanon, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243. Arrangements by LAUGHLIN CREMATION & FUNERAL TRIBUTES.
